One skill that will always be in high demand is barbering. The haircare industry has not only remained relevant, but important through many generations and changes in fashion. Whether people are sporting closely cropped cuts, locks, or afro, everyone knows a good lineup takes their look to the next level. The barbershop will always be busy and the barber will always have work.

Becoming a master barber is not just a career choice, but a decision about your lifestyle. Barbering isn’t just about blades and scissors, but building relationships, creating a comfortable environment, communicating effectively, and spending time with people from all walks of life. When we talk about our barbers, the haircut is only a part of the story. We talk about the conversations we have in the barbershop and the way the barber handles the lively debates that often take place. South Tampa barbers know that the job requires a specific combination of skills that can easily go unnoticed because everyone is focused on the haircut.

Here are 4 benefits of becoming a master barber:

  1. You can work from anywhere in the world. Your trade will never tether you to a particular location. Not not only can you set up shop anywhere in Tampa, but you can expand your horizons if you need a change of pace and scenery. Every barbershop is busy, people waiting for their turn in the chair. If you decide to branch out on your own, all you need to do is find a great location and build a clientele which is easy to do when people are always looking for a barbershop near them.

The barbers of King of Blades Barbershop, a leading Tampa barbershop located on the Dale Mabry highway, always keep the customer in mind, by providing an edgy, stylish or refined haircut that adds to our client’s overall look. From haircutting to shaping sideburns and trimming the beard; much time, care and attention goes into providing our clients with the best cut and experience.

To help with this, here are 11 tips from the South Tampa Barber on what NOT to do while in the barber chair:

Have unclean hair or skin. While barbers take the time to sanitize their tools such as razors, scissors and combs, they would want to only use these items on clean facial skin, hair and scalp areas. Not only is it unsafe to use their tools on skin or hair that is unclean but their other clients would be impacted by the time it takes to re-sanitize them. Therefore we ask that hair and skin remain debris-free prior to your appointment. Also avoid wearing a hat before the appointment as it can matte the hair, making it difficult to manage and be respectful to your barber to have a fresh scent, wear deodorant and display proper hygiene

A fresh haircut is not just the haircut. It communicates confidence, style, and attention to detail. It’s a magnet for positive attention. Well here is a story for the South Tampa Barber readers.

No one knows the power of a great haircut like Kyle. A student in the city of Tampa, he dropped by King of Blades barbershop for a new look. After growing out his afro and struggling to take care of it, he decided to take his mother’s advice and get a haircut. He told us about how it landed him a sweet date.

Us: Why did you decide to cut your hair?

Kyle: I had to agree with my mom that girls my age were probably looking for a cleaner image.

Us: Was she right?

Kyle: Yes! Gillian, the one woman I had my eyes on at school, seemed out of my league. Beautiful and humble, she did well in her class, played basketball, and scored a corporate job as an analyst at Citibank. I wanted to ask her out for Valentine’s Day, so I followed my mom’s advice and searched for the best barbershops in South Tampa.

Us: That must have been overwhelming.

Kyle: [laughing] It seemed like there was a barbershop on every other block! I checked all the reviews and pictures to narrow it down to a couple sleek shops that seemed to offer all the services I needed, including the hot towel treatment afterwards to help with my skincare.

The price of a haircut can vary greatly from one barber shop to the next. In South Tampa there are many reasons for the difference in price, none of which mean you get greater value at one price point as opposed to another. It’s best to choose your barber shop based on your budget and the factors that are most important to you.

According to The South Tampa Barber, here are six factors that impact the price of a haircut:

  1. Appointment or walk-in. While many Tampa barber shops take walk-ins as well as appointments, there are some that primarily offer one of these options. Busy barber shops in high traffic areas typically take walk-in. This means clients can drop by after work or pop in when there isn’t a long line. Pricier barber shops tend to go by appointment.

  2. Location. The barber shops in the midst of the hustle and bustle of downtown south Tampa are likely to have lower prices. Their locations allow for high traffic so they are always busy which means there is likely to be a wait time.

  3. Staffing. If you go to a South Tampa barber shop with a receptionist who can tell you what time you’ll get in the chair and offers you tea or coffee, that is going to be reflected in the price. Is there someone to shampoo your hair after your haircut? That’s factored into the price too. At barber shops where the barbers keep track of who came when, and maybe there are soft drinks for purchase, but no extras, the price is lower.

Every haircut is an opportunity to make a statement. While you focus on style, King of Blades Barber Shop located in South Tampa, takes care of everything else, and that includes sanitation. You probably don’t think of germs spreading in your favorite Tampa barber shop, and that’s likely because the professionals know how to prevent it. In fact, one of the most iconic items in generations and generations of barber shops is that glass container of blue liquid—barbicide.

The tools

Barbicide is a solution used to disinfect tools such as combs and scissors. It is effective on non-porous material including metal, glass, and plastic. Barbicide has to be properly mixed—two ounces of concentrate to 32 ounces of water—and is most effective when tools are immersed for 10 minutes. When that is not possible, spraying is the next best option. When sprayed, items need to be well for ten minutes before they are wiped dry with a clean cloth.

Your skin

Clean and sanitized tools are just the beginning. That alcohol your South Tampa barber rubs on your head is just as important. They’ll apply alcohol to your face and neck too if you got a shave. You don’t even notice it, but you get small cuts from the blades of clippers, liners, and razors. To avoid infections, sores, or bumps, your barber disinfects with alcohol so you have nothing to worry about when you leave the barber shop..

Your haircuts are perfect. Your South Tampa at King of Blades gets it right every time. Your barbershop experience is stellar. The one thing you’re trying to figure out is how to keep that haircut fresh. The truth is that there is no magic elixir for that, but with a few simple adjustments, you can look sharp for a little longer.

Here are five tips from The South Tampa Barber for making your haircut last longer:

  1. Make it sharp. King of Blades cuts are always precise, and that’s just what you need. Your haircut will soften in a week or so, and you’ll have the option to tighten it up, but you can also choose to let it ride. Precise cuts grow out nicely and your barber will be able to easily get you back to the sharp form you love on your next visit.

  2. Think about transition. This one shouldn’t be an afterthought. Haircuts change shape as your hair grows and your scalp is stimulated by washing and brushing. When you choose your cut, give some thought to your hair’s growth rate and how you’ll work with it in a week. Maybe all you’ll need is sea salt spray and a diffuser to get a textured look to make the unruly nature of growing hair work for you. Maybe you’ll need a product with firmer hold than usual.

All South Tampa barbershops are not created equal. Tampa cuts may seem generic, but they reflect the skill of the barber and the style of the man. The same haircut in 10 different South Tampa barbershops will have different prices, give you different experiences, and even be different in appearance. Finding the best South Tampa barbershop for you takes time and dedication. Because haircuts change the way we look and feel, the search is definitely worth it.

According to The South Tampa Barber Here are 7 considerations when you’re trying to find a new barbershop:

  1. Location. Even if it’s not in your daily circuit of home and work, it would be great to find a barbershop in the general area of your regular errands. Haircuts become a ritual and you won’t always be excited about a drive across Tampa for a shape-up. Decide how far you’ll be willing to drive to get your haircut when you’re busy and tired. It’s also helpful, when your barber says it’s a bit of a wait, to be able to step out, get a few things done, and go back for your turn in the chair.

  2. Availability. That place that’s almost famous for cutting Stephen King’s hair may seem like a fantastic option, but will you ever get in the chair? Even the best South Tampa barber can only give so many haircuts in a single day. Make sure you don’t have to wait for hours or, even better, can make an appointment that will be honored. If weekends are your only free time, you’ll want to look specifically for barber shops open on Sunday. Be realistic about your time in order to find the barbershops that can fit nicely into your schedule.

Receding-Hairline.jpg

Receding hairlines in South Tampa are not uncommon, yet they present a challenge to those who don’t expect to have them. Fortunately, South Tampa barbers are highly trained, creative, and well-practiced in achieving haircuts that hide the feature. Instead of spending hours of research and hundreds of dollars on scalp micropigmentation, visit your local South Tampa barber shop to be presented with a wide range of options. When you build a solid relationship with your barber, it’s easy to find the haircuts and styles that work best for you.

Here are six great haircut options by the South Tampa barber you should consider if your hairline is receding:

  1. Mohawk. You may have thought this was a trend, but look at it hanging on. There are many variations of this style, and your South Tampa barber knows the best one for you. Take the sides all the way down and make the top a point of appeal.

  2. Comb-over. Not just for bald plates, this haircut is a master of disguise. It’s easy to style and will definitely cover your hairline. Your local Tampa barber shop has definitely done dozens of variations and can make great suggestions.

  3. High fade. This one never seems to go out of style. The close shave at the sides means a hairline that’s receding around the temples will be indistinguishable.

Get the Perfect Cut:

In South Tampa, different men have different approaches to finding their next haircut. Some stick with the same barbershop they’ve used since they were kids, some often tell themselves, “I need to find the cheapest, best quality barbershop that’s close to me and walk into one of them”.

According to The South Tampa Barber, sometimes, either one of these scenarios may be a recipe for disaster. As some have learned the hard way, the lowest bidder is not always the best choice when it comes to looking your best. Especially in military/ government base areas, it isn’t worth the discomfort of having your hairline pushed back or your signature fade thrown off.

If you want to be proud of your reflection in the mirror and deliver a good impression, your haircut and shave should Fit Your Face. For those who want to get the most out of their barber shop, here’s a simple guide on doing just that.

-

Barbers close to me” is useful as a starting point, but you shouldn’t just find the closest one and walk over there immediately. If you’re in a hurry, that’s something that you should do. However, don’t expect something fancy from the barber – and don’t expect the personalized service that you deserve.

Brow treatment- $5

A quick story for our South Tampa residents. I have a family friend named Kyle who had just left the army at the time, after 4 years of service he finally came back home to his family and friends in South Tampa. It was summer, Kyle has been home for a week now, so I took him to get a haircut at my old barbershop. Earlier in the week, I heard Kyle stressing about how aged his face looked after his tours. So upon completing his haircut, I said to his barber (who has been cutting my hair for 4 years) to put the official South Tampa Barber “fountain of youth” guard on his clippers. Kyle is in his late 30’s at the time so of course, he’s not opposed to the idea of a fountain of youth. He put the guard on his clippers and proceeded to trim Kyle's eyebrows. I sat and watched him transform into a 25 year-old in front of me; upon finishing, Kyle saw what we meant by “fountain of youth”. Who would have thought the simple act of trimming down the eyebrows a little will make you look younger.

Some men in their thirties and upwards are a little more sensitive to matters of age, which is normal. More and more, men are finding out various ways and tricks to preserve their youthful appearances, like bald-fades and fashion. Little do many know the “anti-aging” benefits of a good eyebrow trim. It turns out, it has another, possibly even more important, effect – simply put, it looks neat and clean. Some men rock the bushy brows and frankly, it fits. However, for some of us, it doesn’t work so well- it just looks messy, unkempt and most of all, unprofessional.

The Sharpest Difference

Well the South Tampa Barber thinks you don’t sport a beard, you’re either well on your way or know a thing or two about shaving. Not everyone enjoys this grooming practice because it takes a lot of time and energy to shave, especially if you need to do this a few times a week. One thing that all serious men can agree on though, is, that shaving is essential to looking and feeling good.

The question has been sparking conversation in South Tampa since the dawn of the electrical razor, is whether straight razor shaving is better than using an electric razor. The choice between these razors is often tricky for many men, because they don’t understand the differences between them. According to The South Tampa Barber, most people who visit the barbershop understand the fundamental differences but don’t know how either can enhance or worsen their shaving experience. We’re not called King of Blades for nothing! Read on to learn the advantages of shaving with a straight razor vs. the benefits of electric razor shaving, as well as the disadvantages of each.
